14 Meals for $13…Find Out How & Where!

Hello fellow frugal friends,

I have been out and about in this nice weather, staying as cool as possible!  I went to my local favorite, Haggen (Top Foods).  I was able to score fourteen meals…. 8 dinners and 6 lunches for $13.  This is about $1 a meal … a little less.

Each package of turkey was 0.99.  They are 8 oz each, so for 2 pounds of meat, I paid $3.96.  Normally each package was $2.99, so I saved $2 a pack.  I paired this with a package of bagels (not shown) and will be making turkey bagel sandwiches.  I will definitely have lunch meat left over for the following week.

I also got 8 hamburger patties for $5.74 and an eight pack of burger buns for $1.39.  The patties were normally $7.74 but had a two dollar mark down sticker.  This is eight dinner meals for less than $8.  Is there even a better way to get eight dinners for summer time?

I try to get to Top Foods around noon after they have marked down their items.  Today they really didn’t have all that much, but what I did get was a great deals.  Hope you can get there and check out what they have.  I see no reason in paying full price for something when I can get such a great price on lunch and dinner at a discounted price.

Until next time,

E.

My Julep Box has Arrived!

Hello fellow frugal friends,

I’m pleased to say I’ve received my Julep Maven box:)  and for less than $4 am I pleased! !!!!

Here is what I got…

Three nail polishes, one cuticle repair oil, and a tube of sunscreen. Now, if you know me and how easily my ever so pale skin burns, I would have paid $4 just for the sunscreen. I am not sure if I will keep my subscription but it was definitely worth trying. Tomorrow is nail painting day so I will use one of these and test their power to my multiple hand washings an hour at work!

Did you order one?   What came in yours?

Until next time…

Christmas in July… Get it While it’s Hot!

Hello fellow frugal friends,

As summer progresses I should be getting more free time, but I am finding myself strapped for time to get anything accomplished. As a birthday gift to myself today, I went to Toys R Us and shopped their clearance sale. Christmas seems far away, but it is five months away. Five months of deciding how much to spend on your kids, nieces, nephews, cousins, and more. The only children I have are my baby E and big kid B. Since they aren’t technically “MY” kids, I can buy as much or as little as I want for them. And because of the fact that my husband and I are childless, I shop all the time for kids who won’t be getting gifts. I thought I was done in February or something silly like that, but then I heard about the Toys R Us clearance sale going on.

My friends, now is the time, if ever, to get your tush off the computer, go to Toys R Us- the most dreaded store of all time… and shop your heart out. My entire cart was filled (well, maybe slightly overfilled) and I only spent $45.08. My savings totaled at $238.70.

Savings went as high as 90% off!!!!   The toys are priced at X and then marked down additionally at the register, based off the color of the tag on the merchandise. I mean, really how can you pass that up?  Here is what I walked out with…

I know you are thinking… this is much…keep going…20140724_132120

And when that didn’t seem like enough…20140724_132757

*While I would normally tell you what I paid for each toy, there is just too much to put down for this post (if you have questions, feel free to get in touch with me… I have the receipt).*

I know, you probably think I am crazy… but let me reiterate that all of this should have been around $300 and I got it for $45.  The most expensive item was $2.55, which was the motorcycle in the second picture of toys.  A few things were less than $1, but most were around $1.50.  I purchased 26 items, for varying ages.  This is what I love about shopping sales.  My husband and I will have the ability to give to more kids and families who don’t have the luxury of affording Christmas toys because I purchase things at the lowest price I believe they will go!

The morals of this post go as stated:

1.  GO TO TOYS R US….SHOP THE CLEARANCE NOW! for the kiddo’s in your life, even if you have to store it until December.

2.  At this price, if you have some extra spending cash, instead of going to the bar, or buying a new pair of Rock Revival jeans, buy a couple of toys and make some kids Christmas.

As for this holiday season, all these toys (plus the other dozens we have) will be donated under the name “Chayson” for a childhood friend who lost her son (and another who lost her nephew).  I have so much stuff to give this year, that I am going to reaching out to all my teacher friends, and even just regular followers, and Facebook friends to let me know if they have a family that could use some help this year.  Due to the fact that I have already purchased items, my donations to families will be based off having things in their children’s age range and size.  So please, feel free to tell a friend… a co-worker, or yourself, that if you need help… Chayson has plenty of stuff to go around ❤

Until next time frugal friends,

E.

Where to Save on Summer Items… Plus a Great Find at WinCo

Hello fellow frugal friends,

I know it’s been a hot minute… sorry!  I have been with my family day in and day out for the last three weeks.  In case you want to know what I did… Well, I got new brakes (thanks DAD!), got a Jawbone UP to track how many steps I am taking (again… THANKS DAD!), and got to meet my newest baby brother!  Not that this has relevance to my post today, but the Jawbone UP is AWESOME!   It keeps me moving, and in fact, I am more active all because a bracelet is on my wrist telling me how many steps/miles/minutes of activity I have completed for the day.  With that being said, I have been one busy girl.

I managed to get one trip to Target in while my family was roaming through Washington, but I didn’t really get to do any shopping for myself.  I finally checked out the clearance sales in town the other day and found that summer items were up to 90% off at the Lacey store.

photo 1

The Angry Birds toy didn’t count in the summer clearance but was still 50% off, making it $6.98.  This will be great for my nephew as a surprise gift or I can wait until Christmas/birthday season.  The Crest White Strips were $33, but when I went to check what the cost of one package was (this is a set of two packages) it was $50 for one or $33 for both.  You tell me what the better deal was?  Off bug spray was 70% in the two packs, also making it cheaper to buy 2 than one.

So for summer sale stuff, here is the break down for prices:

Frisbee:  $0.40

Children’s Apron (hula skirt looking): $0.40

Sand Utility Belt:  $1

Raskullz Swim Fins:  $1

Adult Apron:  $1

Coosies:  0.29

These will be great for the little kiddo’s I call my own.. in fact, as I write this, my baby girl Ellie broke into the kids utility belt and is pretending to play in the sand.

After Target, I went to my favorite store…WINCO!  While I don’t find many “Deal of the Day” things from here.. I was able to find coupons on some Nabisco products to help score the best deal ever!  Well, that is, only if you REALLY, REALLY, love Cheese Nips.

photo 2

The original price was 0.78 a box.  I found a coupon on other Nabisco products for $1 off if you bought two of any Nabisco product.  So I bought 12 boxes.  It cost me a total of $3.36 for all 12 boxes OR breaking it down more easily 0.28 a box.  These items don’t expire until December.  I gave a bunch to my sister for the kiddo’s and kept some for myself.

And lastly, if you are trying to get a good deal on summer clothes before the end arrives, a friend of mine told me about Carter’s down in Centralia is having a blow out sale.  $18 original price for shorts, that get marked down to $3.99 and you get an additional 20% off.  Also, everything in the store is at least 40% off right now.  I am not sure how long this sale will last, but it seems like a good time to check it out.  Thanks Megan.

Well friends, it’s been fun to get out there and find you good stuff…. I’ll be able to start my 10 DIY’s next week now that family is gone and I am only working a few days a week.

Until next time,

E.

4th of July weekend savings!

Hello fellow frugal friends,

Hope your 4th of July weekend has been filled with fun, family, and a remembrance as to why we get to enjoy this time with our family and friends! While I was out and about this weekend, I made my way into the mall for the first time in I don’t even know how long. I wish I could go in more, but they never have prices I am willing to pay for something that I want/need. While I was there, I realized it was a holiday weekend, and that the sales were AMAZING! Check out what I got, where you should go, and the screaming deals that you can find!

So first of all, the last time I shopped at GAP I was about 20..so around six years ago. This is probably when my frugal adventures started, but I still thought $15 for a t-shirt was such a great steal. Now… six years later, I walk in to find that all the clearance is an additional 40% off. I found these two pairs of jeans, normally $69.99 for $11.98 & $13.98. Yes, you read that correctly. Can you believe I scored jeans from GAP at that price. They had tons of different styles and plenty of selection between men and women. I also managed to get a new sports bra for less than $5, and a pair of tights for 50 cents. Those are normally $10, so I would say the savings on those are pretty decent! Oh!, and the best thing about these jeans is that they sit high on your hips, hiding your plumbers crack should you have one ; ) Hey, I’m not judging!
Next best thing was the sale Old Navy was having. The tanks in this picture are normally $10, and I scored them for $2 a piece. They also had kids (boys) cargo pants for less than $4 (normally $20). I managed to get a few new black work shirts for $6 each as well. While I don’t typically spend that much on a shirt, I am required to wear black, they were still a good deal, and to be honest, my boobs look great in them (TMI?)… haha. Any ladies needing maternity clothes, just know they had tons of mark downs on their maternity clothes!!
Macy’s had sales on so much stuff, I couldn’t even remember or write it all down. One thing that I remember well was that if you had a WOW! pass or your card, you received extra savings this weekend.
JC Penny’s had plenty of sale options, but nothing stood out.

Friends, this is a great time to get back to school clothes, or just some new stuff for yourself. Places are doing what they can to drive in business, and if they got mine, you know that means they had sales that were worth checking out!

Now, outside of the mall, I can tell you that SEARS is having a great sale on clearance items in their small appliance/home fashions dept., as well as their clothing clearance. Take an extra 20-30% off the already reduced prices. I drove their today, and it looks like they are also having a sidewalk sale, which means, they are looking to make room for new stuff and want the old out (in case you need a translation…should be great prices).

Have a great rest of your holiday weekend! Be safe!
Until next time,
E.
